If you have ever flown in an airplane and used their bathroom then you can relate to how small our Airstream bathroom is. We had one small cabinet under the sink and that is it. This might be doable for traveling on short trips but not for full time airstream living. I mean, a girls got products.

Luckily I’m married to a very handy man. I had a vision and he made it happen. When working in a small space you have to consider every wall space and floor space and be very creative to add storage. Just having a few available inches can make a huge difference! Once we looked at the space and came up with a plan we jumped right in.

The first thing we did is build a long shelf to fit over the window in the bathroom. We painted it then let it sit out to dry while we started on the next phase of the project.

Inside our pantry is a recessed area along the side wall. This wall is shared with the bathroom. Paul determined that we could close off the recessed area in the pantry and in turn create a recessed area in the bathroom for storage. It was a great solution. We didn’t mind giving up a little pantry space because we had already added drawers in other places as well as under the bed storage for pantry overflow.

Before cutting out the recessed wall in the bathroom Paul had to remove the telescoping mirror from that wall. Once he closed up the pantry wall and opened up the recessed area in the bathroom he added the mirror back in a different location. This didn’t add a huge amount of storage but when you have none and than have some it makes a big difference!

Once the recessed shelves were complete in the bathroom Paul added the long shelf above the window. Because the top of the shade was in the way of the shelf he opted to remove the shade from the Airstream wall, add the new shelf, and then attach the shade to the bottom of the shelf instead. It worked out perfectly. The shelf is narrow but perfect for my small bottles of makeup, lotions, and other girl stuff that I had no where to put previously. It made a big difference in being organized and I absolutely love it.

Living in a small space has it’s challenges but with thought and planning you can make a space work for you so don’t be afraid to be adventurous with your ideas. And please feel free to drop us a line and share your ideas with us. We are always looking for inspiration and would love to hear from you.
